Manga day: Finding the time to read

Mangaday is almost over my energy level is at zero, mostly in part to my not eating today and other stuff.

Salutations, I’m Q for those of you that don’t know me, and those that don’t, well Hi Hi! Today was Mangaday all day every Wednesday. This glorious day is the day that most of the top manga get those much desired chapter updates, most notable One Piece. So sit back with your coffee, wait, what? You don’t have coffee? (in the words of Ryu) “Sacrilege”. Anywho lets get started.

One Piece Chapter 745

Yep you saw that right newbies. Thats 700 and 45 chapters that you have to read to catch up on, and boy do you wanna. Each tile, each page, each chapter, each volume, all filled with excitement and intrigue, this chapter was no different. Logically Dofy’s decapitation is properly explained as a puppet, which makes sense as he has used that technique numerous times in the story, most recently against Sanji, also a Tactitious bastard like him would always have a clever way out of any situation or he wouldn’t be the underworld leading bottom feeder. Now don’t get me wrong I hate the bastard too and actually was hoping that he was actually decapitated right there and then, but alas we were not given the easy way out. PS that kick by Flamingo was epic. It makes what law did on punk hazard look cliched. We also get to see the extent of Dofy’s power, Bird cage. Its a fearsome ability that allowed him to create a barrier around Dresssrosa that seemingly cuts any that try to pass through it. It also allows him to control individuals inside the barrier. As a Shichibukai he is fearsome, heck he may be the strongest at this point if you ask me, but that way that Law has seemingly activated total bitch mode is hard to watch. The characters charm came from his total composure which he has lost in recent chapters. He’s still my favorite OP character but I think its about time someone smack that stupid look off his face, its hard to look at.

Birdcage
Where the hell was he hiding all that string ?

You gotta admire the crafty bastard that Doflamingo is though. By the end of the chapter he had the attention taken away from him and spread among him and a few other characters, obviously the straws and company, maybe even the marines. I mean they have all lost communications to base, another ability of bird cage. It seems to cut all mushi-mecation (yes i just made another word). 😉  At the moment the odds look sacked against Dofy and his crew with Sabo (2nd to Dragon), The straw hats, Law (currently in bitch mode), Caros, maybe the marines, and some of the Island wanting his head. I can’t wait for the next chapter, can you? Is there anything I missed?

Nozomi to Kimio Chapter 19

I’m loving this Ecchi sooooo much. You guys know me, i’m a hopeless romantic type that eats this stuff up. The artwork is just ahh…. um.. cough, (licks lips) well you know what I mean. 😀

All that enjoy the female form you are committing a crime if you are not reading this ecchi romantic manga. Chapter 19 starts of, well lets just say tantalizing. What a great first page. “cough”, ok on to the story so far. Nozomi is leaving and she has been avoiding Kimio like the way some people avoid homeless people that ask for their help. He being a typical modern human only starts to realize how much she means to him, now that she is leaving. He tries everything to make their last moments spetacular by trying to get the class together to send her off, but no one seems interested in doing that for that invisible girl, even Mikino. I will love to spoil the end but I’ll save it to this point, just know that the story is not over and that the end of this chapter is a total mind F@#k. If you have not been reading this one, start now, its only 19 chapters so far and trust me you will enjoy it, even if you are not just reading it for the highly stimulating art Honna Wakou puts out. The story is solid, so what are you waiting for start reading already.

Awww they're so cute together :3

    1. have you ever read One Piece? it’s currently my favorite Shonen manga. Naruto can take 3rd maybe after Assassination Classroom. don’t get me wrong Naruto is great but a bit to one dimensional. only focusing on particular characters, while introducing new ones and not exploring them enough. that is just poor writing. the Characters that they do follow, Naruto, Sasuke, Madara are all great Characters that you can connect to, but most the others are “meh”.

      1. I just cannot get into One Piece. The characters do not interest me at all, and there are far too many characters to keep up with. The best thing I could say about One Piece is that they have very unique and cool showcase of powers. My friend is super into One Piece, so I know far more of the story and characters than I would care for.

I find it funny you say Naruto is one dimensional when that’s what I feel is exactly what One Piece is and why I can’t get into it. As someone who didn’t like Naruto at first, I was drawn in by the evolving world and characters (it’s undeniable that flat cardboard cutouts that are Sasuke and Sakura have really developed recently, becoming the dynamic characters they should have been). The world is developing in the crisis with villages destroyed and rival nations banding together. Focusing on a few characters is how it should be to me. I feel it’s impossible to add in as many characters as Bleach and One Piece and effectively develop all the characters without the overall story falling down for it. If everyone tries to be a dynamic character then everyone becomes a static character, or at least not as dynamic as they could be.

        1. lol we have differing opinions, thats good. makes for good conversation. I like Naruto, its a great manga but it’s shallow when it comes to story and character development. Take the arc with Pain. he was a total bad ass then give in to Naruto, then there was Obito, same thing. What the writer seems to be doing is repeating himself,. his characters don’t have enough to separate them selves from each other. they are not dynamic, not unique. The only few that are are, are not focused on enough and so you have characters like Bee, Neji, Tenten, konohamaru and more that never develop. they show them maybe twice per arc or maybe ever few arcs and so we the readers never get to know them or for that matter care. I felt nothing for Neji’s death and craved Guy’s so that i could hopefully feel something.

With One Piece I can’t hope to sell everyone on how awesome the series is because that would mean we are all the same and the world would be boring. What i can say is it succeeds where Naruto and Bleach fail, and in spades. I’ve said numerous times that graphics mean nothing compared to a great story. When I first saw a OP add my reaction was like “urrrh, nope not watching that”, but then I got one of the DVDs from a friend and got hooked. the development of the characters is amazing and not just the main crew but every character. Heck I shed a tear for a ship when it was Die…… I mean Destroyed. The anime and manga may not be for everyone but it’s worth a try over getting second hand info from friends or a bloke on the internet responding to comments while having breaky. 😉

  1. I haven’t read Naruto in forever. Heck, One Piece is the only of the ‘big three’ that I read anymore because I love it. It has a ton of variety to it and personally I love whacky stuff like that.

Same as Chris though, sorta. The Pain Arc felt horrible. All of that build up, all of those characters killed off, then some magic jutsu that restored everyone’s life force at the cost of Pain’s life. I kept reading the manga past that, but I lost interest in that big war arc.

Though, personally speaking, Bleach is even worse than Naruto to me now that I bring the ‘big three’ up. The short and spoiler free version is that Ichigo always has whatever powers are necessary to defeat the bad guy, which isn’t exactly uncommon in many stories, anime/manga or otherwise, but I find it’s done in one of the most asspull ways imaginable. The biggest offender to me is a filler arc that happened…a few years ago I think, in the anime. The big bad pulled a crazy stunt that made it so none of the shinigami could use their powers and only Ichigo was able to fight him because he had hollow powers. And the annoying filler arcs themselves were incredible turn-offs for the series.

    1. I got lost in my rant and forgot about the new One Piece chapter. Short version, looking forward to what I saw someone else on another website describe as One Piece’s form of Hunger Games. Should be fun.
