“Ys I Chronicles+” – Full Playthrough!

The original Ys: Ancient Vanished Omens that was released back in 1987 is now a classic from Nihon-Falcom. While I do own a copy of the game for the Sega Master System, the version I actually played through and finished was Ys: Books I & II for the TurboGrafx-16 CD – a game that was way ahead of its time as a home console CD-based game. The game has been remade a couple times, but in 2009 it was redone as Ys I & II Chronicles for the PSP which Falcom ported to the PC in 2013.

This new version features additional areas and story that was not present in the versions from the 1980s, reorchestrates all the music into excellent renditions of classic tunes, and overhauls the graphics so that they are still pleasing to look at. The only thing they didn’t seem to do was resample the cutscenes from the PSP version, so they appear to look more like 360p or 480p video that is stretched to full-screen. But, this was also true in Ys Origin and it isn’t that big of a flaw.

Here, in what will be my final major production of 2014, I play through the entire game in one fell swoop. The video is broken down into three chapters and features a menu that appears for easier navigation once the introduction is over. Near the end, my victory over the second-to-last boss and backtracking to get the Flame Sword is cut out, but this was due to a video file corruption that I was unable to recover. A few of my attempts to defeat Dark Fact were also cut out, but since you actually get to see me defeat him in the final segment and no important stuff gets cut, it all worked out.

Hopefully you all will enjoy this playthrough. I know it’s long, but you can take it in bits and pieces until you finish!
