30-Day Anime Challenge! (Day 3): Favorite Male Anime Character

Day 3:  Favorite Male Anime Character

Ok, lemme just be honest with you guys:  thinking about who my favorite male anime character is waaasn’t the easiest thing in the world.

There’s just sooooo many contenders to consider;  there’s Lelouch vi Britannia (Code Geass), there’s Alucard (Hellsing), Spike Spiegel (Cowboy Bebop), Stein (Soul Eater), the list goes on and on and on and on.

However, after carefully and intricately formulating multiple theories and postulates as to who my favorite male character would be, I have come to a conclusion that a lot of you may or may not agree with or expect.  Some of you may even fall into fits of rage and extreme disbelief from the choice that I have ultimately decided upon.  However, my decision shall stand firmly.

The one male character that trumps all the aforementioned awesomeness is

none

other

than

……….

L Lawliet.

Fangirls rejoice.  Everyone else, well……..as the tenth doctor would say……”I’m sorry.  I’m so sorry.”

Now, don’t worry, I have planned an immediate, coherent, and logical response as to why L is my favorite.

To be honest, I find eccentric characters highly riveting.  Their idiosyncrasies, odd mannerisms, and unique viewpoints just make for, in my opinion, a very interesting and fun character;  prime examples include Captain Spock, Sheldon Cooper, Sherlock Holmes, and the Doctor, to name a few.

In anime, there are a couple of eccentric oddballs, some with their own brand of weirdness, i.e. Okabe (from Steins;Gate), Death the Kid (from Soul Eater), and Mikisugi (from Kill la Kill), to name a few.  However, none of them carry the same kind of uniqueness that L has.

Those alien mannerisms of his, i.e. his fondness of playing with his food, his refusal to sit properly even in public places, the way he holds cellphones, the way his face lights up, his social awkwardness, and so forth and so on (I could go on and on and on and on), relative to his extreme intelligence and incredible sense of insight and cunning, allows for L to be a very lovable and enjoyable to watch on screen.  He also has this sort of “know-it-all” demeanor around him that really contrasts how odd he looks, resulting in others underestimating him at first glance.

L’s brand of intelligence is also very appealing:  he considers every single possible course of action and every single possible outcome for each of those courses of action with such meticulousness, which indicates not only his genius-level intellect, but also his heightened perception and analysis.  He could have easily been passed off as an actual extra-terrestrial, and yet he still has humanly qualities to him that just makes him so damn adorable and even relatable at times.

Maybe that’s why a lot of people were deeply affected when that thing that we wish never happened…….kinda happen…………

Sigh…..I suddenly feel depressed……..

See you guys at Day 4!

  1. Great post! I also liked L as a character and like you I was upset when that unfortunate thing happened to him. I also can’t help that every time I watch death note and he’s on I want something sweet. Hehe.

  2. I adore L, too! I was so shocked when he died. He’s my favourite character in Death Note. He’s just a genius, and he totally rocks being such an eccentric.
