PlayStation Plus December 2015
It’s the last month of the year, and PlayStation Plus subscribers have a pretty good selection of free games to look forward to close out the year. Whether you want to dungeon crawl with a friend, launch off a mountainside and do tricks on a snowboard, or survive in an 80’s style neon open world cyborg wasteland, Sony’s got you covered.
Gauntlet: Slayer Edition, PS4
Elf needs food, badly! Gauntlet is back, with more hordes of monsters swarming toward you as you try to find the exit to layers of deep dungeons. Quest alone, or if you play with a friend, don’t hog all the loot and food!
King’s Quest — Chapter 1: A Knight to Remember, PS4
Sierra’s adventure series returns, this time as an episodic game. King’s Quest is a collection of five different chapter releases, each focusing on an untold tale in an aging King Graham’s past. PlayStation is giving up the first episode for free, and you can decide if you want to continue the quest.
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, PS3
Playing like an action movie found on an old 80’s VHS, Blood Dragon takes the Far Cry engine and open world systems and puts the player in a neon colored fever dream of a landscape complete with laser-armed cyborgs, mutant zombies, and of course blood dragons.
Freedom Wars, PS Vita
Freedom Wars is an action JRPG set in the distant future when most of humankind is imprisoned in penal city-states known as Panopticons which wage war against one another. Players fight against giant mechanized weapons known as Abductors, and rescue civilians captured by them, which releases materials and resources that contribute towards their Panopticon.
SSX, PS3
December has to be the best month to release a game about snowboarding tricks, right?
Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken, PS Vita
I was prepared to dismiss this title as a generic side-scrolling platform with silly animals as heroes; while it does feature those elements, the videos I watched for this game reveal a decent level of polish, and the action reminds me of Shadow Complex, which I enjoyed greatly. Long story short, I’m now excited to check this one out now, where previously I was very skeptical.
PlayStation Plus is ending 2015 on a high note, with a well-balanced array of games for many tastes. Which are you looking forward to playing? Let us know in the comments! As always, you can hear me talk about these and other games on the Plug and Play podcast.
