Hideo Kojima finally free from Konami
Hideo Kojima, famed director of the Metal Gear series as well as other highly regarded titles like Zone of the Enders, may finally be free from the oppressive clutches of Konami. Although rumors have been circulating that Kojima was leaving ever since Konami canceled the announced Silent Hill collaboration with Guillermo del Toro, he was demonstratively under contract as late as December 3. At the Game Awards 2015, producer Geoff Keighley revealed that Kojima was planning to accept the award for best Action/Adventure game for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, but was forbidden to attend by Konami. This shocking revelation may have helped Kojima finally get out of his contract with Konami, but we will probably never know the details of the split.
According to Nikkei, Konami and Kojima have officially severed ties today, December 15, 2015. Nikkei says that Kojima has now formed his own studio, and is collaborating with Sony Computer Entertainment.
