“Cornerstone” Brings Zelda-ish Fun to the PC!

Last year, Zelda fans were treated to Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas making its way from iOS to the PC via Steam. Oceanhorn was a pretty great game, too. Though some people were quick to judge it as a simple Zelda clone (and more specifically, a Wind Waker clone), the game offered some unique gameplay elements, an interesting story, excellent boss-fights and dungeons, and overall a rather well-done experience brought right to your PC. I, for one, felt it was excellent and a great value for the asking price.

Now, Overflow Games has brought Cornerstone: The Song of Tyrim (released April 26, 2016) to Steam, offering another fantastic Zelda-style adventure, this time with a fun Viking theme to it. What’s more, this game has a lot of depth and quite a bit to offer. In this near-hour of gameplay, I still only manage to complete what feels like the game’s tutorial and gain access to the areas outside the main starting village, so it feels like we are barely scratching the surface. Yet, while some could say that taking an hour to learn the basics is a bad thing, I find that it shows you the quality the game has to offer. The graphics are great, the music is well-made, and I found that the dialogue was witty and fun. It’s obvious there’s a good story to be had here, but the writers weren’t afraid of poking a bit (okay, a lot) of fun along the way!

I will say that the game is a bit buggy. Performance on my pretty beastly machine felt a bit low compared to games that are much more graphically intensive, and beyond this, I encountered a few strange/weird bugs, some just funny but others annoying. Hopefully, these sort of things will get ironed out as a bit more time passes (remember, the game is new).

Anyway, hopefully you’ll enjoy this gameplay sample, and if you enjoy what you see, you can pick up Cornerstone on Steam for $19.99.
