GAME REVIEW – TASTEE LETHAL TACTICS

As a fan of the X-COM series I found this title, Tastee: lethal tactic did not really resonate with me, which was not helped by the fact that I started this review on a lower end Laptop and by the end I was playing on a high end Desktop. Potentially resulting in the initial impressions I received while playing on the laptop hampered my overall experience with the game, so keep that in mind while reading this review.

When I started the review I had not played this type of game for a while,  and what I found was an underwhelming multiplayer which took what seemed like forever to find me a match, and when I eventually found one, the turns took just as long or even longer to progress, because I had to wait on my opponent to make their move which varied depending on the skill of the individual was playing against.

Where this game shines is in it’s single player experience. Though it’s not as expansive as the X-COM games,  it still manages to offer very good gameplay turn based strategy gameplay with in it’s 30 or so missions tied together with a flimsy…. story? OK I’m not sure if I’d call the single player a story/campaign mode, but a collection of unique challenging repayable missions that serve to challenge the player and keep them invested for short bursts.

Another of the good points about this game is the tutorial, which is very helpful for the development of the player, with video training tutorials to give you the player a visual representation on how to perform specific action.

TASTEE’s environments are also highly detailed and fully interactive. Featuring destructible walls, realistic physics and numerous challenging ways to complete any task.  Every turn allows you to execute a number of commands with each member of your unit before the turn ends, then your opponent has their go and repeat till the mission is completed or your entire squad is eliminated. It also lets you preview how your actions may play out for each member of your squad. Which can make the difference between your entire squad surviving a mission or three members of your team dead and the last member cornered. This however is where all the praise for this title ends.

The game suffers from a very limited selection of classes to pick from, only featuring snipers, demolition experts, an agent class and a shot gun class. Each class has a couple versions but they do not have enough of a difference between them to say any is that different from the other. The map selection though detailed, is also very poor. I think the developers should/ may add more character and more maps for players to choose from. As it stands now I believe most players will quickly complete the single player missions and then quickly move along to the next thing in their steam library.

Final Verdict

In conclusion I’d say that this game is good for the gamer that likes this type of turn based strategy gameplay, and at it’s base price of $15 USD it’s easy to suggest. Just don’t go in expecting X-COM, and If you do get it and plan to play it online make sure you have the spare time and a lot patients for the long waiting you will experience.
