The original Mario Kart 8 first launched on the Wii U, but thanks to the poor sales of the console, many people didn’t play many of the great exclusives that were featured on it. However, that is starting to change, for the Nintendo Switch has been selling very well (2.7 million units to be exact), including its games.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which is an upgraded version of the Wii U original, launched on April 28. On launch day alone, it has sold more than 459,000 copies, which includes physical and digital sales. These number officially makes this entry in the franchise the fastest selling one in history. This means that one out of every two people who bought the game bought it on launch day.
The previous holder of this crown was Mario Kart Wii, which sold around 433,900 back in 2008. On top of being the fastest selling, it is also the highest rated Mario Kart game in 15 years. It currently holds a Metacritic score of 93, which ties with Mario Kart: Super Circuit for Gameboy Advance.
