Astro will be making a headset for Nintendo Switch

With the recent announcement of Super Smash Bros. on Switch, Nintendo has strong motivation to get its online service rolling. As we’ve mentioned before, voice chat on Switch is less than optimal thanks to a shoddy mobile app, and this bizarre setup for a headset. While Nintendo has yet to offer details on their $20/year online service (with hopefully friend’s groups and better online matchmaking), there is hope in the headset department.

ASTRO Gaming, a leader in premium video gaming equipment, today announced an exciting multi-year partnership with Nintendo. The studio is teaming up with Nintendo to deliver a future filled with audio goodness for all — including an upcoming ASTRO/Nintendo Switch Headset later this year.

This is great news for Nintendo Switch owners who’d like to game with online chat, but we don’t know how Astro will overcome the technical hurdles of the Nintendo Switch design yet. For now, this new partnership has made possible some cool new custom sideplates for Astro’s A40 line of headsets. You can check out these “speaker tags” for Super Mario Bros., Super Mario 3, and the Legend of Zelda below.

What do you think of this announcement? Does it give you a breath of hope for online gaming on the Nintendo Switch? Let us know in the comments below.
