Project JUDGE – A Yakuza Style Detective Game

I knew that SEGA had a new game in the pipeline from the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios, but I didn’t expect Project JUDGE (working title). The game is a detective styled action game that uses a lot of the elements we’ve seen in the Yakuza Series. It’s got densely populated streets, great Japanese voice acting, what seems to be a compelling plot with some really wacky Japanese side activities.

Instead of playing as a Japanese gangster, players will be in the role of a detective, finding dirt on suspects, stopping criminals, and all that other cop stuff. Leave it to the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios to make police work seem cool. The game also seems to have some fourth wall breaking mini games and QTEs. It looks similar to the Yakuza franchise in many ways and seems to play similarly too. That includes multiple fighting styles, and use of weapons.

I’ve had a very great experience with the Yakuza titles to date, all are exceptional games. So at this point this studio can do no wrong in my eyes, and I’m eager to play the finished product as soon as it is ready. I’m in no rush, and you shouldn’t be either. If they’re able to take their time and polish this one I’m sure we’ll have another gem on our hands.

Project JUDGE (working title), will release in 2019 on the PlayStation®4. It will feature the voice acting talents of Japanese actor/artist Takuya Kimura as the game’s main protagonist, Takayuki Yagami. Look out for more coverage on this game soon.
