Home Sweet Home brings Halloween terror to consoles and VR

Home is where you feel safe.

Secure.

Unless you’re playing Home Sweet Home, the first in a series of chilling first-person survival horror games based on real-world Thai mythology and lore.

As the chill fingers of Winter settle on the leaves, draining them of life to fall crisply to the ground to be trampled by shadowy figures emerging from the ever-earlier twilight, my gaming time drifts more to the macabre. This time of year, October, or as I like to call it, Halloween-month I settle in and watch my favorite scary movies, and I’m always looking for new horror video game experiences as well.

VR gives any game a more immersive, immediate sensation, and is particularly well suited to the horror genre. When the game is literally all around you, the only option to flee the terror is to shut your eyes, which welcomes certain doom. Since the Home Sweet Home supports VR and traditional screens, you can dial down the terror by playing just on a TV. We won’t judge. Much.

After a long night filled with mourning and sorrow over the recent disappearance of his wife, Tim awakens to find himself in a strange, dilapidated building instead of the comfort of his own home. Naturally confused, he desperately begins to search for a way out while attempting to solve questions that could lead to answers regarding his wife’s disappearance. At the same time, he’ll find himself being hunted by malevolent spirits.

There is a dark and sinister secret casting a shadow over this interconnected labyrinth…and without question, it’s no longer the happy home that it once was.

A horror game that stars a character named Tim? Well, I have to play that right? I get lost easily as it is, so it will be terrifying wandering the halls of a haunted building with no weapons and only stealth to keep me alive.  My personal dilemma will be whether I play in PSVR, or just in first person on the big TV with surround sound and the lights turned off.

Home Sweet Home is developed by Yggdrazil Group and published by Mastiff. It releases in North America on October 16, 2018, for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR, Xbox One, Steam and Steam VR for Windows PC.
